Can you believe that I finished this quilt top back in August of 2009?  I kept waiting to get a walking foot to quilt it.  Well that’s my excuse anyway.

It’s not perfect, but the big thing is that my daughter loves it!

I love the back of it too! Adorable fabric from Hobby Lobby!

I also got my kona cottons in today for the Sew Bee Wonky quilting bee.  I love the colors!

Yeah – see.. I like alot of different stuff. I could post more and more mosaics and add even more to my faves on Flickr. But here’s the deal. I don’t want you to feel limited by the pics above or what’s in my faves. The mama’s have paired us up because the believe that you already make things that I would like. Feel liberated – not stressed!
If you are looking for extras that you’d like to include – some ideas could be some fat quarters or a pin cushion or a needle holder, whatever you feel like sending!
Seriously – no pressure. Have fun. Take this time to try something new or to make that one pattern you’ve been putting on hold. Take this to advance your skills or to practice one you’ve done many times… I promise I’ll love it.

My partner doesn’t know who I am.. it’s all a secret… so shhhhh! And if she does happen to find out,well, then she has to figure out which one is for her! On the other hand – I have no idea who is making a pin cushion for me either!

I found some chests 1/2 off at Hobby Lobby and used those as my base. I also made some pin toppers with beads. The pictures aren’t that great (taken at night with shadows), but I’m loving these!

Greg has found the love of his life in Katie. Now mind you I haven’t met Katie, but from what I can tell she’s pretty special herself. They will be in matrimonial bless later today… yup as I write this they are getting ready for their wedding. I couldn’t make it – heck I couldn’t even get their present to them in time for the wedding… but they’ll get them soon. I do wish them more happiness than they can contain and years of God’s blessings raining down on them.

I had planned these three tea towels for them a LONG time ago. It just took me a long time to get them done with all the other projects I had going out. The funny thing is I designed these for them way before Greg posted this on Katie’s birthday on facebook. ” She is the peanut butter to my jelly, the cheese to my macaroni, the logos to my pathos, unleashed in the east, best dressed in the west, sorted in the north, without a doubt in the south, the queen of queen bees, mi amore and mi vida, my best friend and in 29 days I can call her my wife. Happy Birthday Katie Spankins!! Love ya babe!” Yup – when I read that I knew my tea towel designs would be a winner in their eyes.

And to spread the joyfulness surrounding such an awesome man and his bride, I’m sharing two of the designs with ya’ll. (The cupcake design is actually from clipart on the internet somewhere – I didn’t draw it…)

Do you prefer life askew?

No need to conform to straightness – Sew Bee Wonky!

So what is this Sew Bee Wonky Virtual Quilting Bee??

Why it’s a ton of fun! We’ll have 13 people that will be assigned a month. This month that person will bee the Queen (or King) Bee. The other people in the group will be the worker bees. The Queen/King Bee will send fabric along with clear instructions on the quilt block (or blocks) they are wanting the worker bees to create for that month. Everyone ends up being a worker bee for 12 months and the Queen/King bee for one month.

The Rules:

PARTICIPATION: 13 participants and 13 months – July 2010 will be the first month, ending August 2011. We will skip December 2010 because it gets so hectic for most. You should be active in the flickr group – trying to post once a week, at the least once every two weeks.

BLOCKS: All blocks requested must be wonky. This is the “Sew Bee WONKY” virtual quilting bee. When it is your assigned month it is your responsibility to post your block requirements, inspiration, etc in this group’s discussion pages. The title for the discussion should note the month. (i.e. “June’s Block”)

MAILING FABRIC: You will send your fabric bundles to each member of the group so they arrive before the 1st of your month. This means that if you are in charge of July, you should probably mail out your fabrics around mid June. Make sure you send enough fabric for the blocks you require and state clearly whether member can add fabric from their own stash. Also state whether you would like the leftover scraps sent back or if the member can keep them.

BLOCK SIZES/QTY: You can ask for one block or two and also specify the size of your blocks. I would say if you request a 15″ block to only ask for one, but if you are asking for 8″ or 10 ” blocks, then two would be reasonable. Also, it doesn’t hurt to post what you are thinking of and ask if anyone wants to commit to more than one (or two) blocks – this way you know who to send more fabric to. Try not to make it to hard work for other members, please do not ask for anything you would not be willing to do yourself. This is something fun for us all and we want to keep it fun.

KEEP IT A SURPRISE! When you are making the blocks you can post ‘sneak previews’ on the groups flickr page or on your own blog so we can all have a peep. The queen/king bee will post pictures when he/she receives the blocks.

COMMUNICATION: If you are running late or having difficulties completing the blocks in a particular month please let me and also the member you are making the blocks for know. Communication will be key, so keep the group updated via flickr and post photographs as well.. It is nice to see what each other are doing. You will have until the end of the month to complete and post out finished blocks.. Leave a message on flickr when you have posted or if you are running late. Also please leave a comment when you receive the completed blocks and then we all know where we are..

HAVE FUN AND PARTICIPATE!

If interested, send me a flickr mail, with a link to your flicr page/blog. Tell me a bit about you and your quilting style. Fabrics you like, colors you tend to go toward, blocks you love – etc. Just want to make sure you’ll be a good fit. You will need an active flickr account or blog to participate. Also, note what month(s) you would like to be assigned. I can’t promise you’ll get it, but we’ll try!

Here are the blocks I received when I was the queen bee in February.  I’m going to add two more blocks to it and make a lap quilt.  I really like how it turned out!

This is the block I made for April.  She wanted wonky log cabin.  This is probably one of my FAVE blocks to do.  If you are curious and would like to make one – Quilt Dad has an excellent tutorial.

I also embroidered a little birdie in the center – tone on tone.  The queen bee for April likes birds, so I hope she likes that extra touch!

And this is the block for May.  She sent the fabric used in the whole squares.  I didn’t have much fabric to coordinate so this is what I came up with – due to the limited amount of material I had.  She wanted a 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 inch block.  This one is 8 inches.

We just got instructions for the June block – TREES in different colorways.  I have the pink tree!  I’m so excited and can’t wait to tackle this one.

The quilt I’m featuring is the first “real” quilt I’ve completed.  A long time ago I tried quilting and just tied them.  This one though… this one I machine quilted…freehand at that!

It’s by no means perfect, but it has significant meaning.  You see, this quilt was made for my now 6 month old niece, River.

It’s rainbow themed… and there is a reason for it.  My sister and her husband struggled for a long time to be blessed with a pregnancy.  After a lot of emotional ups and downs, River was born.  The rainbow is known to many Christians as a symbol to remind us of God’s promises.  It also shows after some of the most raging storms.  My sister and brother-in-law, they went through a raging storm… and there was that rainbow…  She’s named River.

Katie is my niece… and she’s is the cutest thing! She knew exactly what she wanted her Aunt KK to make her. A drawstring bag with three pockets – on the front for it to say “Katie”

and on the back for it to say “I love Zumbuddies.”  Now, being the aunt I am… that’s exactly what I did.

I used a batik green on the outside and a blue/pink batik on the inside.

Megan is a friend and we met when she started dating a great friend of ours – Brandon. Now… let me just say… Brandon rocks, so it’s no surprise to see him dating such an awesome gal as Megan. Both are extremely witty people. Before meeting Megan I don’t think I had ever met someone that kept up with horse races… but Megan loves horses and the races! So for her graduation I made her a tote bag and embroidered a horse on it.

The horse was a free coloring page somewhere on the net… can’t find it now, but I love how it seems to be moving.

Megan liked it and that’s all that matters. My daughter did try to steal it though…

This only my second quilt to “quilt” (the first being River’s baby quilt).  I have done two others and tied them a long time ago.

April is a friend’s daughter and she’s a pretty awesome gal.  I’m still in awe that April is graduating from high school this month and will be headed off to college.  I thought it would be nice to give her a lap quilt to commemorate the occasion.

I created the design using Excel. LOL I know – not really a design software, but it worked for me considering I dealt with squares and rectangles.  I absolutely love the colors and am looking forward to giving her the quilt later today.

The Bible verse is embroidered and says “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12.

I think that’s a GREAT verse, especially for someone young that is embarking on a new journey!
